Do You Know Who This Man Was?

He wore tattered garments as he walked amongst the people
Traveled through the valleys and the barren plains
Telling parables to all who would listen and performing miracles
Stories of the persecuted and the slain
His words were meek yet spellbinding
People came for miles to listen and to hear
The children followed like ants to sugar
Each day more of them drew near
He seemed to possess some sort of magic
For he spoke in parables and his touch could heal
And it was as though he sensed one’s inner thoughts
And what the people felt he could also feel
They said he was a Carpenter from Nazareth
A Good Samaritan among other names
They said he was the King of Kings
And in all nations would he reign
The government of the times grew cautious
Questioning this mysterious man with so much power
The religious leaders were jealous of his following
For he seemed to steal away their hours
Soon they all gathered together in council
They would make a judgment on a man they did not even know
But they knew if they kept doing nothing
His popularity would dangerously grow
Soon they called upon their military soldiers
They would hunt and subdue this prophet of a man
Yet when they went to deliver him up
He offered to them his hands
Betrayed by one of his own disciples
Judas sold his soul for a silver price
And Peter denied his Holy Father as predicted
As the cock crowed once, twice, and then thrice
There was no fighting or resistance,
Not even words were exchanged
It was all like a play unfolding on a stage
Somehow rehearsed and pre-arranged
They marched him later to a hilltop
A cross he was made to drag behind
And there in the company of criminals
He would be sentenced to painfully die
Crucified for being gentle and loving
Nailed through the hands for being kind
A crown of thorns placed upon his head to mock him
A stab wound piercing his beaten side
And the people watched and waited
They beheld no evidence of his power
Yet humanity sat in the balance
For those long crucial hours
Little did they realize, that not all was as it appeared
The so called man – the son of God
Would now be forever revered
He offered his death for their soul’s salvation
He was a sacrificial lamb at best
Dying to pay for the sins of all men
By making a dying son's request©
